Steve: This series of abstract paintings was started in my Rancho Santa Fe studio in the spring of 2007 right at the time everything was coming into full bloom. Not only was I inspired by the freshness of the flora and fauna, but also by the “back country” views of undulating hillsides and citrus groves, reminding me of Provence and Tuscany. This is the time of year we usually encounter a morning marine layer so it also gave me an excuse to lay a fire in the fireplace and crank up Yo Yo Ma on my iPod. Soon, the morning fog would burn off und voilà the sun would beam. To me these paintings flow with that same energy, brightness, and vigor.
